Camlachie

Originally a small weaving village, Camlachie was transformed with the development of coal mining into a centre of ironwork and engineering.  William Beardmore, steelmaker, shipbuilder, motor, train, and aircraft manufacturer had its principal base in Camlachie.  With the decline of the steel industry, Camlachie has become a residential and retail suburb of Glasgow.
