Britain By Car - A Motoring History

Wiltshire

A landlocked downland and mostly rural county, rich in archaeology.  Sites include those at Stonehenge, Avebury and Silbury Hill, together with many other smaller camps, earthworks and stretches of ancient track.

In the southern half of the county, there is a large military training area, covering about half of Salisbury Plain, which contributes significantly to the local economy, as does the presence of a number of national and international corporations, situated either side of the M4.
