The Welbeck Estate

Welbeck

A 15,000 acre estate, located on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border, and originally the site of a twelfth century monastery.  After the dissolution of the monasteries, the Abbey was eventually acquired by Sir Charles Cavendish.  It was converted into a large country house and has, since then, remained within the family.

The Abbey and Estate have an interesting history, but the Abbey remains a private residence, although the Estate now includes a number of small businesses, along with the Harley Gallery which is open to the public and displays works of art from Welbeck’s historic collection.
