Cricklewood
A suburb of northwest London which, until the early 1800s, largely comprised of just a few cottages and a number of substantial houses. However, the coming of the railway in 1868, and later the extension of the Underground, transformed Cricklewood into a busy residential (and for a while industrial) area.
Cricklewood was the home of the Handley Page Aircraft Company (alongside Cricklewood Aerodrome), Smiths’ Industries, manufacturer of electrical goods and clocks, and the location of the first factory making Smith’s potato crisps.
