Britain By Car - A Motoring History

Sheffield

Yorkshire’s second city, and one that was synonymous for many years with the British steel industry, and particularly for the production of the cutlery.  Steel manufacturing continues in Sheffield today, although in a much reduced but more specialised form.

Sheffield was heavily bombed in 1940, and much of the city centre was later rebuilt, as a result.  With two universities, the city has a strong cultural and artistic tradition; and one of its more recent claims to fame is as a setting for the film The Full Monty.
