Commentary
The museum is located on the site of Liverpool Road Station, the former terminus of the world’s first purpose-built passenger and goods railway between Liverpool and Manchester.

The collections primarily focus on the development of industry in Manchester, but the museum also has the wider aim of showing how innovations in science and technology have shaped modern society.

Amongst the many galleries a large space is devoted to the aircraft, motorcycles, and cars that have been built in Manchester.  These exhibits include models produced by Crossley, Ford, and Rolls-Royce.
