Described in a 1930s A.A Road Book as a “town of good solid comfort”, Leamington Spa owes its being to the fashion for “taking the waters” in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1838, Queen Victoria bestowed the title of “Royal” on the town, and the legacy of this fame today are many fine Georgian, Regency and Victorian terraces and squares.
