Britain By Car - A Motoring History

Halewood

Situated about eight miles from Liverpool city centre, and originally a densely wooded area, Halewood by the early 1700s was a sizable township based around farming, linen weaving and tanning.

The arrival of the railway in 1874 gave people access to other employment opportunities in Widnes and Liverpool, but the real changes in Halewood started to come in the 1950s and 60s with a programme of house-building to alleviate the problem of overcrowding in central Liverpool and to provide homes for workers at the new Ford factory.
