Dundee

The fourth largest city in Scotland, Dundee is situated on the north bank of the Firth of Tay, connected to the south by a modern road bridge and a two-mile rail bridge, built between 1883 and 1888 after its predecessor was blown down in a gale in 1879 as a train was making the crossing.

For many years, Dundee’s economy was based on textiles, whaling, and shipbuilding.  It was also the home of publisher DC Thompson & Co, famous for the ‘Beano’ comic.

Today it is a modern city with a strong arts tradition and home to a number of international companies.
