Dagenham
Originally a small village on the north bank of the River Thames, located about ten miles east of the City of London.
Between 1921 and 1932, 27,000 homes were built on nearby Becontree Heath, for soldiers returning home after World War One, and to re-house residents from the slums of the East End of London. Today, the estate has a population of 100,000 and is the largest municipal housing estate in the world.
